{"id":16753,"date":"2022-05-23T18:35:15","date_gmt":"2022-05-23T18:35:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=16753"},"modified":"2022-05-23T18:35:15","modified_gmt":"2022-05-23T18:35:15","slug":"finding-a-way-through-loneliness-and-isolation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2022\/05\/23\/finding-a-way-through-loneliness-and-isolation\/","title":{"rendered":"Finding a way through loneliness and isolation\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Community organisation&nbsp;<em><strong>Inclusee<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;is encouraging Australians who are feeling isolated or lonely to visit their new website (<a href=\"about:blank\"><u>inclusee.org,au<\/u><\/a>) to access the power of connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur service has hundreds of participants and volunteers across 19 regions who have had thousands of hours of connection, laughter, education and conversation together,\u201d&nbsp; Rachael Cook, CEO of&nbsp;<em><strong>Inclusee,&nbsp;<\/strong><\/em>a community organisation designed to combat loneliness particularly in the lives of senior Australians in remote and regional areas, says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLoneliness can greatly impact physical health, mental health, and overall well-being.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Covid lockdowns and border closures have exacerbated the problem with many Australians reporting that their isolation from family and friends has worsened.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Inclusee<\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;is calling for participants who are over the age of 65, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples over the age of 50, who feel they are at risk of social isolation and loneliness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/influencing.com\/uploads\/tmp\/bab42d6253aae4d76b5521b9397e4360\/20bd69159f5a7dcce75351cdf37d6d0f.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The service has been in operation for nearly 50 years, connecting qualified volunteers with older Australians who are in need of social interaction through face-to-face visits, telephone and digital catch ups.<br><br>\u201cThe programs are absolutely fantastic,\u201d says 79-year-old Jan Wilson, \u201cThe idea of having someone to connect with every week and having a laugh is just the best feeling. And it\u2019s like they are sitting there right beside you.\u201d<br><br>Ms Cook explains that the&nbsp;<em><strong>Inclusee&nbsp;<\/strong><\/em>programs are completely free for participants, though some eligibility conditions apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cVolunteers get partnered with participants who have similar interests, and they meet at regular intervals over video. We provide this service to a broad and diverse number of people around Australia and respect the individuality and culture of all people who participate in our programs,\u201d Ms Cook explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile there will never be a substitute for one-on-one, person-to-person contact, simple technologies are opening up exciting prospects for the future of care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe use video chat and a user-friendly mobile tablet to keep connected and create enjoyable experiences related to the interests of the individual. The device is pre-configured with bespoke software designed to easily facilitate video chatting for those not already confident with mobile technology.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Inclusee&nbsp;<\/strong><\/em>launched in 1973 under its original name of Golden Years Senior Centre and was recently known as Aurous Ltd.
