Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance today joined some lucky Novocastrians on an historic journey along the completed Newcastle Light Rail line.
\nMs Berejiklian said the gamechanging light rail line is a turning point in the city\u2019s revitalisation and it is only possible because of the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government\u2019s strong economic management.
\n\u201cNewcastle Light Rail has been delivered on time and on budget and I am thrilled regular commuter services will start on Monday,\u201d Ms Berejiklian said.
\n\u201cThe NSW Liberals & Nationals Government is committed to delivering for Newcastle and has invested more than $650 million into the city.
\n\u201cThanks to this investment the CBD has now been opened up to the waterfront, there is a record number of cranes in the sky and light rail down Hunter Street.\u201d
\nMr Constance said the NSW Government\u2019s investment in Newcastle has created an environment which will help the city to thrive into the future.
\n\u201cNewcastle Light Rail was built in 12 months and after four months of testing and commissioning it is now taking its first passengers,\u201d Mr Constance said.
\n\u201cThis project has revitalised Newcastle and encouraged more people to look to live and work in the city centre.\u201d
\nLiberal candidate for Newcastle Blake Keating said Newcastle Light Rail is a world-class transport system that will help Newcastle reach its potential.
