{"id":1464,"date":"2019-02-06T14:56:28","date_gmt":"2019-02-06T14:56:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=1464"},"modified":"2019-02-06T14:56:28","modified_gmt":"2019-02-06T14:56:28","slug":"new-logo-for-a-new-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2019\/02\/06\/new-logo-for-a-new-city\/","title":{"rendered":"New logo for a new city"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"inner-head\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"inner-desc\">Newcastle Art Gallery, Civic Theatre, Blackbutt Reserve and other city jewels have been united under a new corporate logo to reflect Newcastle&#8217;s revitalisation and ensure Novocastrians are aware of the assets they collectively own.<br \/>\nA multi-coloured \u2018N\u2019, the main feature of the new City of Newcastle logo, was inspired by the emergence of a new city and designed to promote its growing appeal to tourists.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Inside-(1).jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/getattachment\/Council\/News\/Latest-News\/New-logo-for-a-new-city\/Inside-(1).jpg.aspx\" alt=\"Inside-(1).jpg\" \/><strong><sup>New logo\u00a0on a blue background.<\/sup><\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cAll of our facilities and services will be united under a single banner that Novocastrians can be proud of,\u201d Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said at today\u2019s launch.<br \/>\n\u201cThe new \u2018N\u2019 logo bears seven colours in a simple yet effective design that encapsulates Newcastle as an emerging global city. The ripple effect represents water, as a strong symbol and shared connection across our coastal city. The vibrant palette captures the beauty of Newcastle\u2019s natural environment and represents the city\u2019s bright outlook.<br \/>\n\u201cThe look proudly complements our highly successful Newcastle \u2018See Change\u2019 destination brand. The two will often feature side by side as we work to deliver services and facilities to Newcastle as well as promote the city as a destination.<br \/>\n&#8220;Through consultation with our community for our Newcastle 2030 Strategic Plan, we found that our coastline was an important element to the Newcastle region and our fresh brand reflects this.\u201d<br \/>\nResearch undertaken last year found around half of all Novocastrians weren\u2019t aware Blackbutt Reserve, Fort Scratchley, the Civic Theatre, Newcastle Museum or Newcastle Art Gallery were City of Newcastle facilities.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"City_of_Newcastle_Horizontal_RGB2-(1).jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/getattachment\/Council\/News\/Latest-News\/New-logo-for-a-new-city\/City_of_Newcastle_Horizontal_RGB2-(1).jpg.aspx\" alt=\"City_of_Newcastle_Horizontal_RGB2-(1).jpg\" \/><strong><sup>The new logo\u00a0on a white background.<\/sup><\/strong><br \/>\nAn updated, more contemporary logo was needed, the Lord Mayor said, a quarter of a century after the Civic Fountain motif replaced a coat of arms bearing two seagulls.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"insidelaunch.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/getattachment\/Council\/News\/Latest-News\/New-logo-for-a-new-city\/insidelaunch.jpg.aspx\" alt=\"insidelaunch.jpg\" \/><strong><sup>Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes\u00a0flanked by\u00a0members of the City&#8217;s creative team at this morning&#8217;s logo unveiling.<\/sup><\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cAs a progressive, dynamic and rapidly changing City, it was important that we made this change to complement Newcastle\u2019s transformation from a regional town into a smart, liveable and sustainable global city,\u201d Councillor Nelmes said.<br \/>\n\u201cWhen our community doesn\u2019t recognise the services or facilities their local council provides, it\u2019s clear that the old approach of separating council\u2019s services and logos for each asset was not optimal. Under the new \u2018N\u2019, we are united with a consistent and recognisable symbol.\u201d<br \/>\nCEO Jeremy Bath said he expected the new brand would engender a greater sense of city pride and ownership following its gradual roll out.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019ve brought together elements such as our affinity for water into a functional design that is bold and instantly recognisable,\u201d Mr Bath said.<br \/>\n\u201cAnd with our in-house design team partnering with local creative agency Headjam in a co-design capacity, along with some in-kind support from the agency, we were able to minimise the spend without compromising the result. This assistance to develop the design for our organisation, and all facilities cost just under $50,000.<br \/>\n&#8220;With the foundation design work done, we can start a 12-month implementation phase.<br \/>\n\u201cWhile we intend to roll the brand out in a timely fashion, we won\u2019t be replacing our 25-year-old brand overnight.
