{"id":14576,"date":"2022-01-23T23:27:16","date_gmt":"2022-01-23T23:27:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=14576"},"modified":"2022-01-23T23:27:16","modified_gmt":"2022-01-23T23:27:16","slug":"australians-with-severe-dermatitis-to-benefit-from-pbs-listing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2022\/01\/23\/australians-with-severe-dermatitis-to-benefit-from-pbs-listing\/","title":{"rendered":"Australians with severe dermatitis to benefit from PBS listing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From 1 February 2022, Australians with severe atopic dermatitis will have access to a new treatment listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).<br \/>\nAustralians aged 12 years or older living with this form of dermatitis will benefit from the extended listing of Rinvoq<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0(upadacitinib) on the PBS.<br \/>\nAtopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, is a chronic skin condition affecting the skin, causing redness, itching and sometimes infections.<br \/>\nUncontrolled eczema has a significant impact on the day to day life of patients and their families, including sleep deprivation, an increased risk of skin infection, depression and anxiety.<br \/>\nRinvoq\u00ae helps to improve the condition of the skin, reducing itching and flares by blocking enzymes which create signals in the body\u2019s immune system resulting in inflammation.<br \/>\nMinister for Health and Aged Care, Greg Hunt, said this listing will benefit around 3,600 Australians a year.<br \/>\n\u201cWithout this subsidy, patients might pay more than $27,000 per year treatment, instead they\u2019ll pay $42.50 or as little as $6.80 per script,\u201d Minister Hunt said.<br \/>\n\u201cSince 2013, the Coalition Government had approved more than 2,800 new or amended listings on the PBS. This represents an average of around 30 listings or amendments per month \u2013 or one each day \u2013 at an overall investment by the Government of $14 billion.<br \/>\n\u201cOur Government\u2019s commitment to ensuring Australians can access affordable medicines, when they need them, remains rock solid.\u201d<br \/>\nThe listing of Rinvoq<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0on the PBS has been recommended by the independent Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From 1 February 2022, Australians with severe atopic dermatitis will have access to a new treatment listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
