agreement secures $840 million in preschool funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Families with young children in NSW will have better access to high quality pre-school and early childhood education due to an historic agreement between the Commonwealth and New South Wales Governments.<br \/>\nThe new\u00a0National Preschool Reform Agreement, with NSW as its first signatory, ensures every child\u00a0will receive\u00a0high quality education in the year before school, regardless of where they live or their background.<br \/>\nActing\u00a0Minister for Education and Youth,\u00a0Stuart Robert\u00a0said\u00a0the agreement\u00a0will\u00a0ensure\u00a0children in NSW have access to quality preschool options and are better prepared for their first year of school.<br \/>\n\u2018This\u00a0funding\u00a0agreement provides\u00a0certainty to parents, educators\u00a0and the sector throughout New South Wales,\u2019\u00a0Minister Robert\u00a0said.<br \/>\n\u2018It will help every child in New South Wales\u2014about 400,000 children over four years\u2014have the opportunity to attend at least 15 hours of preschool a week in the year before they start school.\u2019<br \/>\nThe Commonwealth Government has committed $560 million of new funding with more than $280 million from the NSW Government to support the four year funding deal.<br \/>\nThe NSW\u00a0Government\u00a0will also increase the quality of preschool\u00a0and long day care\u00a0education by\u00a0delivering\u00a0targeted programs\u00a0for children who experience disadvantage.<br \/>\nNSW\u00a0Treasurer\u00a0Matt Kean said our most important economic asset is our people and there is no better way to ensure a prosperous future than to make sure everyone has the best possible education and start to life.<br \/>\n\u2018We want every child in NSW to have the best start in life and every family the support they need to fully participate in the workforce,\u2019 Mr\u00a0Kean said.<br \/>\n\u2018Investing in our people, our families and our kids will help us grow today\u2019s economy by increasing workforce participation rates and it will help our future prosperity by giving our kids the best possible start in life.<br \/>\n\u2018This is a game changing deal for families in NSW, providing parents and\u00a0carers\u00a0the freedom to\u00a0participate in the workforce in ways that better suit their needs.\u2019<br \/>\nFunding will be linked to reforms to increase preschool participation rates and improve outcomes, benefiting all children regardless of the type of preschool they attend.<br \/>\nIn NSW increased funding to\u00a0long day care\u00a0will also allow a greater focus on quality and support for children\u2019s transition to school.<br \/>\nThere will also be an increased focus on engagement of children and families, particularly from vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds, to help them have a happy, safe and supported preschool experience and a stronger start in life.<br \/>\nNSW Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning\u00a0Sarah Mitchell said\u00a0the new funding deal will\u00a0provide\u00a0stability to the sector and\u00a0provide more access to early childhood education for young children.<br \/>\n\u2018Every child deserves the best start in life, and this reform means more children will have access to a quality preschool education right across New South Wales,\u2019\u00a0Ms\u00a0Mitchell said.<br \/>\n\u2018This agreement builds on our\u00a0commitment to support young families through our free preschool program,\u00a0which we know has made a positive impact across New South Wales.<br \/>\n\u2018By boosting funding for long day care services to provide high quality preschool programs, families will get more flexibility and choice when it comes to early education for their child.\u2019<br \/>\nThe historic signing means the Preschool Reform Agreement 2022-2025 is now a National Partnership and the Commonwealth welcomes other states signing on ahead of the 2022 preschool year.<br \/>\nThe Commonwealth has guaranteed ongoing funding for preschools and this four-year agreement provides long term certainty to around 300,000 Australian children and their families each year, along with the early childhood education sector.<br \/>\nThe Commonwealth\u2019s historic investment in early childhood education also includes around $10 billion a year through the child care system to reduce out-of-pocket expenses for families using child care and improve workforce
