{"id":13938,"date":"2021-11-21T04:47:27","date_gmt":"2021-11-21T04:47:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=13938"},"modified":"2021-11-21T04:47:27","modified_gmt":"2021-11-21T04:47:27","slug":"funding-boost-for-national-parks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/11\/21\/funding-boost-for-national-parks\/","title":{"rendered":"Funding boost for National parks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service has received a significant funding boost to upgrade facilities, supporting jobs and improving access to the state\u2019s national parks.<br \/>\nAs part of the NSW Government\u2019s\u00a0<em>Economic Recovery Strategy<\/em>\u00a0an additional $91.5 million will be invested into shovel-ready projects in our national parks in a significant boost to our nature-based tourism industry.<br \/>\nTreasurer and Environment Minister Matt Kean said\u00a0this investment will support jobs by creating better\u00a0facilities \u2013 such as walking trails and family-friendly amenities \u2013across the State\u2019s vast network of national parks.<br \/>\n\u201cFrom Western Sydney to the Far West of NSW,\u00a0families are flocking to national parks and we want to make sure facilities are up to scratch and able to meet this increased need,\u201d Mr Kean said.<br \/>\n\u201cBefore COVID we had more than 60 million visits every year, national parks were already a key driver of the visitor economy, generating $18 billion in economic activity and supporting over 74,000 jobs.<br \/>\n\u201cSince COVID visitation levels have skyrocketed, highlighting the role parks play in supporting the physical and mental health of the community. Put simply \u2013 national parks are good for the soul.\u201d<br \/>\nThis funding is part of the\u00a0largest ever\u00a0investment in national park visitor infrastructure, enhancing our natural environment and supporting\u00a0regional economies with\u00a0over $14 million will be invested in critical conservation projects\u00a0.<br \/>\nVisitor infrastructure projects include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$3.45 million upgrade to the elevated rainforest boardwalk in Budderoo National Park;<\/li>\n<li>$3 million in visitor precincts including in Georges River National Park;<\/li>\n<li>$3 million for better visitor infrastructure at Ebor Falls in Guy Fawkes River National Park;<\/li>\n<li>$1.5 million to improve public roads access to the Royal coastline in Royal N.P;<\/li>\n<li>$795,000 for short stay accommodation at Kinchega and Paroo Darling national parks in the Far West;<\/li>\n<li>$600,000 for enhancements to the mountain bike track network at Glenrock State Conservation Area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service has received a significant funding boost to upgrade facilities, supporting jobs and improving access to the state\u2019s national parks.
