{"id":13827,"date":"2021-11-13T22:07:38","date_gmt":"2021-11-13T22:07:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=13827"},"modified":"2021-11-13T22:07:38","modified_gmt":"2021-11-13T22:07:38","slug":"morrisons-not-zero-modelling-a-sham","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/11\/13\/morrisons-not-zero-modelling-a-sham\/","title":{"rendered":"Morrison&#039;s \u2018not zero\u2019 modelling a sham"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Greens Leader, Adam Bandt MP, on the government\u2019s \u2018net zero modelling\u2019 said:<\/em><br \/>\n&#8220;This is a plan for \u2018not zero\u2019.<br \/>\n&#8220;The Prime Minister\u2019s promise not to lie lasted less than 24 hours.<br \/>\n&#8220;This is a piece of fiction trying to cover up inaction.<br \/>\n&#8220;Scott Morrison\u2019s climate ambition is so low that he doesn\u2019t even hit net zero in his net zero \u2018plan\u2019.<br \/>\n&#8220;This is a recipe for climate collapse in Australia, with more extreme droughts, floods and fires.<br \/>\n&#8220;It doesn\u2019t even model what the world is furiously trying to reach in Glasgow, the Paris Agreement goal of staying below 1.5C of warming.<br \/>\n&#8220;Under this \u2018not zero\u2019 plan, in 2050 emissions from coal, gas and other sources are nearly half what they are today, 253 million tonnes per year.<br \/>\n&#8220;The plan is built on more coal and gas and a vague hope that the private sector will voluntarily offset 159 million tonnes of someone else\u2019s pollution. The Prime Minister fundamentally misunderstands \u2018can-do capitalism\u2019 if he thinks big corporations will voluntarily hand over a big bag of cash for permits they\u2019re not obliged to buy.<br \/>\n&#8220;Under the Liberals&#8217; plan, in 2050 Australia won&#8217;t have a safe climate and it won&#8217;t even have net zero emissions.
