{"id":13749,"date":"2021-11-08T08:20:19","date_gmt":"2021-11-08T08:20:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=13749"},"modified":"2021-11-08T08:20:19","modified_gmt":"2021-11-08T08:20:19","slug":"cockle-bay-development-on-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/11\/08\/cockle-bay-development-on-exhibition\/","title":{"rendered":"Cockle Bay development on exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new public park spanning the Western Distributor and connecting Sydney\u2019s CBD to Darling Harbour is part of a $891 million retail and office tower proposal on public exhibition from tomorrow.<br \/>\nMinister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes said the Cockle Bay development proposal by a consortium of GPT, Brookfield and AMP Capital, brought together new waterfront offices, shops, restaurants and bars with the creation of new public space.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Western Distributor rips through the heart of Sydney, but this proposal seeks to resolve that with significant new public space to create new pedestrian connections between the city centre and one of Sydney\u2019s most popular tourist destinations,\u201d Mr Stokes said.<br \/>\n\u201cDarling Harbour contributes $1.2 billion a year to the NSW economy and before COVID, hosted over 15 million visitors every year.<br \/>\n\u201cThis project is a huge vote of confidence in the future of the Sydney CBD. It will create 3,500 construction jobs and once completed will be home to 7,000 jobs.<br \/>\n\u201cThere will be new waterfront shops, restaurants and bars that will inject new life into this beautiful part of the city for future generations to come.\u201d<br \/>\nKey features of the proposed development include the construction of:<br \/>\nA landbridge across the Western Distributor between Darling Harbour and Darling Park with two parks \u2013 one with more than 5,500 square metres and the other with over 1,000 square metres.<br \/>\nA new 43-level office tower with four publicly accessible podium levels, and 35 levels of commercial office space.<br \/>\n\u201cWe encourage everyone to review the proposed plans and have their say on the project.\u201d<br \/>\nThe proposal reflects renowned Danish architecture firm Henning Larsen\u2019s winning entry in the proponent\u2019s design excellence competition held in March 2020.<br \/>\nThe community is able to have their say on the project from Tuesday 9 November to Monday 6 December 2021.
