{"id":13597,"date":"2021-10-27T19:59:46","date_gmt":"2021-10-27T19:59:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=13597"},"modified":"2021-10-27T19:59:46","modified_gmt":"2021-10-27T19:59:46","slug":"caring-for-country-in-western-sydney","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/10\/27\/caring-for-country-in-western-sydney\/","title":{"rendered":"Caring for country in Western Sydney"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Native plants and animals in Western Sydney are set to thrive with more than $1 million invested as an early action of the Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan.<br \/>\nMinister for\u00a0Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, and Minister for Trade and Industry\u00a0Stuart Ayres\u00a0said the funding would be provided to Deerubbin, Tharawal and Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Councils (LALCs) to support cultural conservation efforts.<br \/>\n\u201cThere is more than 60,000 years of continuous Aboriginal connection to the land of Western Sydney, so it\u2019s vital we draw on this deep knowledge to protect the area\u2019s unique native plants and animals,\u201d Mr Ayres said.<br \/>\n\u201cOur conservation plan and partnership with the Local Aboriginal Land Councils will ensure the ancient woodlands of the Cumberland Plain thrive for many generations to come.\u201d<br \/>\nMinister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes\u00a0said the city\u2019s west is home to a large and diverse Aboriginal community rich in history and culture and this grant would enable cultural conservation to build a legacy for the future.<br \/>\n\u201cThis funding will support these communities to care for Country in a way that recognises their strong connection, knowledge and custodianship to the land,\u201d Mr Stokes said.<br \/>\n\u201cThere is an abundance of native animals and plants in Western Sydney, which is why the conservation plan and our partnership with the Local Aboriginal Land Councils are so important.\u201d<br \/>\nThe $1 million grant program \u2013 funded by the NSW Government \u2013 is being delivered in partnership with the NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) as an early action of the Cumberland Plain Conversation Plan.<br \/>\nNSWALC Councillor for the Sydney\/Newcastle Region Abie Wright said the grant funding would support the LALCs to deliver early cultural and conservation outcomes on their lands.<br \/>\n\u201cLALC lands in Western Sydney often have land-use legacies that require expensive assessment and investment to prepare for future sustainable conservation management,\u201d Cr Wright said.<br \/>\n\u201cI\u2019m heartened by the Government\u2019s investment to support the LALCs with their conservation endeavours and amplify capacity and leadership in local cultural management projects.\u201d<br \/>\nThe Department of Planning, Industry and Environment is currently developing a 10-year strategy in partnership with Western Sydney\u2019s Aboriginal community under the Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan.<br \/>\nFor more information visit:\u00a0<a title=\"Original URL:\nhttp:\/\/www.planning.nsw.gov.au\/CPCPgrant\nClick to follow link.\" href=\"https:\/\/aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.planning.nsw.gov.au%2FCPCPgrant&amp;data=04%7C01%7Cwebmaster%40nsw.liberal.org.au%7C79ad0179f40d4f1b9ce508d998d4e889%7Cf7b9e888f8a7467190c0d6ca09a51633%7C0%7C0%7C637708863325624187%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&amp;sdata=QTQ0c7FyPLfBw0pvaL4%2FZCwb2djxSvk23ujDtLLThZI%3D&amp;reserved=0\">www.planning.nsw.gov.au\/CPCPgrant<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Native plants and animals in Western Sydney are set to thrive with more than $1 million invested as an early action of the Cumberland Plain Conservation Plan.
