{"id":13463,"date":"2021-10-20T08:49:09","date_gmt":"2021-10-20T08:49:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=13463"},"modified":"2021-10-20T08:49:09","modified_gmt":"2021-10-20T08:49:09","slug":"tourism-and-events-recovery-turbocharged-as-visitor-economy-bounces-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/10\/20\/tourism-and-events-recovery-turbocharged-as-visitor-economy-bounces-back\/","title":{"rendered":"Tourism and events recovery turbocharged as visitor economy bounces back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than $530 million will be invested in reviving events across the state and getting tourism back on track as part of the NSW Government\u2019s COVID-19 Economic Recovery Plan.<br \/>\nThe tourism and events recovery package includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>$250 million<\/strong>\u00a0for the expanded\u00a0<strong>Stay &amp; Rediscover scheme providing a $50 voucher<\/strong>\u00a0to all NSW adults to redeem at accommodation premises across NSW;<\/li>\n<li><strong>$150 million\u00a0<\/strong>to support the recovery of major event activity across the state including<strong>\u00a0$50 million\u00a0<\/strong>for a Regional Events Package to support major events, festivals, agricultural shows and community events across the regions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>$60 million<\/strong>\u00a0for an\u00a0<strong>Aviation Attraction Fund<\/strong>\u00a0to incentivise international airlines to re-commence flights to Sydney;<\/li>\n<li><strong>$6 million<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>bring business events<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>back<\/strong>\u00a0to the city;<\/li>\n<li><strong>$50 million<\/strong>\u00a0for the\u00a0<strong>CBDs Revitalisation<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Program<\/strong>\u00a0to support events and activations in CBDs across Greater Sydney and surrounds; and<\/li>\n<li>An\u00a0<strong>Event Saver Fund<\/strong>\u00a0to provide immediate support to organisers if events are cancelled or disrupted by any public health orders during the 2021-22 summer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>$25 million for the Festival Relaunch package\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 to stabilise established commercial and not-for-profit festivals, big and small, so they can program with confidence into 2022\/23.<\/li>\n<li><strong>$10 million\u00a0<\/strong>for a\u00a0<strong>Recovery Marketing Campaign\u00a0<\/strong>including an extension of the successful roadtrips campaign launched in 2020<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Premier Dominic Perrottet said this package would bring back tourists and supercharge the businesses and attractions that contribute $38 billion to our economy, making the state one of the world\u2019s most popular destinations.<br \/>\n\u201cMillions of people around the world dream of visiting Sydney and our regional areas. This package not only ensures they can, but that they\u2019ll experience the very best of what we have to offer,\u201d Mr Perrottet said.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s also great news for people right across our state, reviving events and businesses and bringing our major drawcards back to life.\u00a0 Importantly, more than 300,000 people rely on our tourism industry and our aim is to reclaim our position as one of the world\u2019s favourite destinations.\u201d<br \/>\nMinister for Tourism Stuart Ayres said the much needed investment will help revive shuttered businesses and bring tourism providers back to their vibrant best.<br \/>\n\u201cThis was a one in one hundred year event which severely damaged our tourism industry,\u00a0 operators barely hung in there as they lost bookings, customers and staff, now as we rebuild we can do so with confidence,\u201d Mr Ayres said.<br \/>\n\u201cFor our visitor economy to reach its full potential we need event owners to dream big, airlines to fly in and for locals and visitors to embrace our world class venues and hospitality with enthusiasm once again.\u201d<br \/>\nTreasurer Matt Kean said\u00a0getting tourism back on track and reviving the visitor economy\u00a0is key to our\u00a0economic recovery.<br \/>\n\u201cWe know NSW is the best place to live, work, learn and play, but this is about bringing visitors back, boosting business and serving up the best of what NSW has to offer to the world,\u201d\u00a0Mr\u00a0Kean said.<br \/>\n\u201cWe want to support citizens to get out and explore their own backyard, give our events sector the confidence to get back to business and send the signal to the airline industry that NSW is and always will be Australia\u2019s gateway to the world.\u201d<br \/>\n24-Hour Economy Commissioner Michael Rodrigues said the lights of our cities have been dimmed for too long.<br \/>\n\u201cWhether you are heading back to the office, in town for a show or a game, or meeting some friends for an alfresco drink, we want to make going into city centres a magical experience\u201d.<br \/>\nThe tourism recovery package is a key part of the NSW Government\u2019s COVID-19 Economic Recovery Strategy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than $530 million will be invested in reviving events across the state and getting tourism back on track as part of the NSW Government\u2019s COVID-19 Economic Recovery Plan.
