{"id":12982,"date":"2021-09-17T02:47:11","date_gmt":"2021-09-17T02:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=12982"},"modified":"2021-09-17T02:47:11","modified_gmt":"2021-09-17T02:47:11","slug":"quality-time-for-teaching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/09\/17\/quality-time-for-teaching\/","title":{"rendered":"Quality Time for Teaching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new plan aimed at changing the way teachers work at school, giving\u00a0them more quality time to spend preparing and teaching students, was released today.<br \/>\nTeachers and school staff\u00a0are being called on\u00a0to provide feedback on the\u00a0NSW Government\u2019s Quality Time Action Plan\u00a0which sets an ambitious agenda for reducing duplicative, repetitive, and low-value administrative tasks in schools.<br \/>\nMinister for Education Sarah Mitchell said leveraging technology and digital tools to streamline teaching tasks is at the\u00a0centre\u00a0of the plan.<br \/>\n\u201cWe know that quality teachers have the biggest impact on student outcomes \u2013 by streamlining and simplifying the work done outside of the classroom we can enhance the experience and outcomes within the classroom,\u201d Ms Mitchell said.<br \/>\n\u201cThe department needs to always support teachers to do their best work. This plan is about asking teachers to help shape the solutions they need from the system.<br \/>\n\u201cWhile lesson planning, marking and reporting are core parts of the job, we can make these processes smarter, more intuitive and\u00a0high-value\u00a0rather than cumbersome, repetitive and wasteful.<br \/>\n\u201cNot only will this give teachers back valuable time to focus on learning,\u00a0it will\u00a0enable us to scale best practice resources and teaching approaches in classrooms across\u00a0NSW.\u201d<br \/>\nOpportunities for reform identified in the Action Plan include an overhauled assessment system allowing teachers to generate individual student focused assessments in minutes; an online tool to allow teachers to easily store, find,\u00a0share\u00a0and tailor lesson plans and learning programs; and streamlined administration requirements for maintaining accreditation.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Action Plan represents the next phase of the work to\u00a0create more time for teachers, which is a core component of the School Success Model. To date, this work has saved an estimated 105 hours per principal, 10 hours per teacher and 25 hours per school administration staff member each year,\u201d said Ms Mitchell.<br \/>\nThe Action Plan\u00a0has been released\u00a0for consultation and feedback from school staff and stakeholders, enabling schools to have direct input into the reform agenda.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new plan aimed at changing the way teachers work at school, giving\u00a0them more quality time to spend preparing and teaching students, was released today.
