{"id":12872,"date":"2021-09-09T23:56:29","date_gmt":"2021-09-09T23:56:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=12872"},"modified":"2021-09-09T23:56:29","modified_gmt":"2021-09-09T23:56:29","slug":"have-your-say-on-plan-for-mayfield-cycleway-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/09\/09\/have-your-say-on-plan-for-mayfield-cycleway-network\/","title":{"rendered":"Have your say on plan for Mayfield cycleway network"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"content-main \">\n<div class=\"bg-container\">\n<div id=\"content-main\" class=\"wrap\">\n<div class=\"second-lvl-wrap\">\n<div class=\"main-content\">\n<div class=\"inner-content event-detail-page\">\n<div class=\"inner-desc\">\nCity of Newcastle is continuing to expand the city\u2019s cycleway network with early consultation now open on a plan for the Mayfield area.<br \/>\nThe project is investigating cycleways in Mayfield which link key locations and connect local cycleways with regional routes.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/getmedia\/1bf6a91c-d897-4550-8740-ecacf12ad6eb\/102888-56.jpg?width=1000&amp;height=666\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\nThe initial consultation seeks feedback from the community on possible cycling routes and aims to get an understanding of what would encourage people to cycle in the area.<br \/>\nLord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said the City\u2019s long-term goal is to improve accessibility for the community of Mayfield by building safe and attractive cycleways that cater for all ages and abilities.<br \/>\n&#8220;We are planning cycleways that will link residential, commercial and key areas of activity, and connect with regional routes,&#8221; Cr Nelmes said.<br \/>\n&#8220;We want to hear from residents, students and anyone who has an interest in cycling in our city, especially those who would use these new routes in and around Mayfield in the future.&#8221;<br \/>\nDeputy Mayor Declan Clausen said the area in focus includes key nodes of activity such as Mayfield\u2019s commercial area, Steel River, Hunter TAFE, Waratah Station, Warabrook Station, and the University of Newcastle Callaghan Campus via these stations.<br \/>\n&#8220;Linking these key locations with cycle networks and pedestrian paths is a strategic objective of the City,&#8221; Councillor Clausen said.<br \/>\n\u201cMayfield is experiencing growth with young families moving into the area and development occurring, so this early feedback will be crucial in shaping active transport plans for the suburb.\u201d<br \/>\nTo provide feedback visit\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/yoursay\">newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/yoursay<\/a>\u00a0and share your thoughts via a short survey and interactive map, where you can comment on proposed routes and show us your preferences.
