{"id":12828,"date":"2021-09-06T20:37:29","date_gmt":"2021-09-06T20:37:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=12828"},"modified":"2021-09-06T20:37:29","modified_gmt":"2021-09-06T20:37:29","slug":"grants-boost-for-projects-honouring-veterans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/09\/06\/grants-boost-for-projects-honouring-veterans\/","title":{"rendered":"Grants boost for projects honouring veterans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Projects which shine a light on the important service of our veterans will be boosted by the Anzac Community Grants Program, which is now open for applications.<br \/>\nMinister for Veterans Natalie Ward said the program\u2019s opening coincides with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/historycouncilnsw.org.au\/history-week-nsw\/history-week-2021\/\">History Week<\/a>, and would promote awareness of our veterans\u2019 vital contribution.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re looking to support projects which enrich communities and heighten understanding of our veterans\u2019 efforts both past and present,\u201d Mrs Ward said.<br \/>\n\u201cAround 1,200 veterans transition into NSW communities from the Defence Force every year and we remain committed to supporting them after service.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is an opportunity to get projects off the ground, at a grassroots level across many communities.\u201d<br \/>\nApplications are open to individuals and not-for-profit organisations, including local government authorities, ex-service organisations, non-Government organisations and educational institutions.<br \/>\nGrants cover four categories: local community historical research and education; preservation or display of war memorabilia; public commemorative events, arts and culture; and support to members of the NSW veteran community.<br \/>\nLast year more than 40 projects were selected, including a replica battlefield trench, a digital image gallery of 600 photos, and woodwork to preserve a living memorial.<br \/>\nThe North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club received a grant to assist veterans in becoming qualified lifesavers through the Bronze Medallion course.<br \/>\n\u201cThis encourages veterans to socialise and engage with their local communities, while recognising their defence force skills,\u201d Club Life Member and Trustee Mark Cotter said.<br \/>\nGrants of up to $2,000 per organisation are available and applications close on Remembrance Day, 11 November 2021.
