{"id":12678,"date":"2021-08-27T00:41:48","date_gmt":"2021-08-27T00:41:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=12678"},"modified":"2021-08-27T00:41:48","modified_gmt":"2021-08-27T00:41:48","slug":"community-at-the-heart-of-aerotropolis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/08\/27\/community-at-the-heart-of-aerotropolis\/","title":{"rendered":"Community at the heart of Aerotropolis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NSW Government has welcomed a report from the Independent Community Commissioner for the Western Sydney\u00a0Aerotropolis\u00a0which outlines 40 recommendations to better support local landowners.<br \/>\nMinister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes appointed Professor Roberta Ryan to the role of Independent Community Commissioner in May to address the concerns of landowners in the area.<br \/>\n\u201cThe planning and delivery of the Western Sydney\u00a0Aerotropolis\u00a0is one of the biggest projects in the state\u2019s history and as a result is incredibly complex,\u201d\u00a0Mr\u00a0Stokes said.<br \/>\n\u201cWe wanted to ensure that\u00a0all\u00a0voices were heard and Professor Ryan has done an outstanding job over the last few months\u00a0by\u00a0meeting with more than 100 landowners potentially affected by the rezoning plans.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019ve released an\u00a0initial response to the Commissioner\u2019s findings\u00a0that commits to supporting most recommendations\u00a0and we\u00a0will\u00a0provide\u00a0a more detailed whole-of-government response in the next couple of months.\u201d<br \/>\nSome\u00a0recommendations\u00a0require changes\u00a0to planning controls\u00a0and these will be considered as the Department\u00a0of Planning, Industry and Environment\u00a0finalises\u00a0the planning framework,\u00a0due to be completed by the end of this year.<br \/>\nKey recommendations\u00a0supported by the Government include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Establishing\u00a0the Independent Community Commissioner as an ongoing role\u00a0to improve communication with landowners;<\/li>\n<li>Creating a Community Consultative Committee to\u00a0provide an engagement forum for the community and\u00a0improve communication with landowners;\u00a0and<\/li>\n<li>Investigating adjustment of zoning boundaries and other changes as recommended in the report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said it was critical for the Government to listen to the community and respond to their concerns.<br \/>\n\u201cA vital part\u00a0of\u00a0the response\u00a0right now is improving the way we communicate with landowners,\u201d\u00a0Mr\u00a0Ayres\u00a0said.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019ve extended\u00a0the\u00a0Commissioner\u2019s role so Professor Ryan can continue to provide support to landowners.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re also developing a Community Participation Plan and\u00a0implementing other measures to provide a\u00a0better\u00a0pathway for\u00a0the\u00a0people\u00a0of Western Sydney\u00a0to participate in planning this new,\u00a0world-class city.\u201d<br \/>\nMore information about the Independent Community Commissioner\u2019s report, and the preliminary responses from the\u00a0NSW Government\u00a0is available\u00a0here:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3zkC007\">https:\/\/bit.ly\/3zkC007<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The NSW Government has welcomed a report from the Independent Community Commissioner for the Western Sydney\u00a0Aerotropolis\u00a0which outlines 40 recommendations to better support local landowners.
