{"id":1250,"date":"2019-01-17T09:37:26","date_gmt":"2019-01-17T09:37:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=1250"},"modified":"2019-01-17T09:37:26","modified_gmt":"2019-01-17T09:37:26","slug":"australia-day-fun-to-finish-with-a-bang","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2019\/01\/17\/australia-day-fun-to-finish-with-a-bang\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia Day fun to finish with a bang"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Skating and Parkour activities for kids along with a smorgasbord of entertainment and a variety of tasty food\u00a0will feature in Australia Day celebrations to be capped off with an evening fireworks display over Newcastle Harbour.<br \/>\nA range of fun family activities will be staged from 10am-2pm in the amphitheatre at the eastern end of Foreshore Park with Parkour lessons, skate boarding activities on mobile ramps and giant inflatables to keep youngsters occupied (see full line up below).<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"3580-Australia-Day-Web-Showcase-(3).jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/getattachment\/Council\/News\/Latest-News\/Australia-Day-fun-to-finish-with-a-bang\/3580-Australia-Day-Web-Showcase-(3).jpg.aspx?width=800&amp;height=600\" alt=\"3580-Australia-Day-Web-Showcase-(3).jpg\" \/><br \/>\n&#8220;Food, fun and entertainment will make up the Australia Day celebrations at Foreshore Park,&#8221; City of Newcastle CEO Jeremy Bath said.<br \/>\n&#8220;In addition to the Parkour, skate boarding and giant inflatables, the lunch time amphitheatre event will feature Brazilian dance by Capoeira Newcastle, the energetic youth band called &#8211; \u201cTwisted Tongues\u201d from Newcastle\u2019s School of Rock and African Beats by \u2018Bakoomba\u2019.&#8221;<br \/>\nAt 8.30pm, the fireworks postponed from New Year&#8217;s Eve will be let off from Stockton, offering a clear view right along the Newcastle Foreshore and from higher vantage points such the Obelisk.<br \/>\n&#8220;As soon as it is dark we will set off the fireworks which we had to postpone due to the wild winds and lightning that hit on New Year&#8217;s Eve,&#8221; Mr Bath added.<br \/>\n&#8220;Because we have only just received the necessary approvals for the fireworks, there isn\u2019t time to develop an associated event.
