\nA local organisation that provides vital support to people\u00a0<\/span>who are<\/span>\u00a0experiencing<\/span>\u00a0homeless<\/span>ness<\/span>\u00a0or doing it tough is the beneficiary of<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>2021 A<\/span>nnual\u00a0<\/span>Lord Mayor Prayer Breakfast.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\nHunter Homeless\u00a0<\/span>receive<\/span>d a cheque for\u00a0<\/span>$<\/span>15,<\/span>155<\/span>\u00a0from Lord Mayor\u00a0<\/span>Nuatali<\/span>\u00a0Nelmes on Thursday\u00a0<\/span>after\u00a0<\/span>Newcastle<\/span>\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>church and businesses<\/span>\u00a0community\u00a0<\/span>united\u00a0<\/span>at the<\/span>\u00a0annual early-morning fundraiser at\u00a0<\/span>NEX Newcastle.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\nLord Mayor\u00a0<\/span>Nuatali<\/span>\u00a0Nelmes\u00a0<\/span>said\u00a0<\/span>she was thrilled to\u00a0<\/span>present the funds<\/span>\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0such a worthy organisation that<\/span>\u00a0contributes immensely to improving\u00a0<\/span>the lives of people every day.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201c<\/span>Hunter Homeless\u00a0<\/span>Connect does\u00a0<\/span>invaluable\u00a0<\/span>work<\/span>\u00a0connect<\/span>ing<\/span>\u00a0vulnerable people in our community with vital services and support<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cThe funds raised\u00a0<\/span>will go towards the Community Services Directory and \u201cConnecting the Hunter\u201d program to allow Hunter Homeless Connect to continue to deliver on its mission during the pandemic and in the face of the current housing crisis.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201c<\/span>The\u00a0<\/span>A<\/span>nnual Lord Mayor\u2019s Prayer Breakfast brings together\u00a0<\/span>more than 400\u00a0<\/span>like-minded people<\/span>\u00a0and organisations to celebrate shared values that benefit our community.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201c<\/span>These values unite us and help all Newcastle residents, irrespective of their<\/span>\u00a0background<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201c<\/span>By joining together in\u00a0<\/span>compassion, respect, tolerance, justice<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0equity\u00a0<\/span>we can<\/span>\u00a0achiev<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0great things for our city.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cI thank\u00a0<\/span>Pastor Rick Prosser and Maria Thomas from\u00a0<\/span>Kingdomworks<\/span>, and<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0many others<\/span>\u00a0who<\/span>\u00a0made this year\u2019s event such a success.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\nChair of the\u00a0<\/span>Hunter Homeless Connect<\/span>\u00a0Jen<\/span>n<\/span>\u00a0O\u2019Sullivan\u00a0<\/span>said the f<\/span>inancial boost<\/span>\u00a0will allow the\u00a0<\/span>local organisation to maintain its<\/span>\u00a0highly valued<\/span>\u00a0welfare<\/span>\u00a0program<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0and will provide opportunities to expand.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cWe are<\/span>\u00a0so grateful to receive such incredible support from the Newcastle community through the Lord Mayor\u2019s Prayer Breakfast.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cHunter Homeless Connect<\/span>\u00a0provides a dignified and practical way for people experiencing homelessness, to identify inclusive and welcoming environments, have access to services and connection to members of the community without judgment.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201c<\/span>From humble beginnings in 2009, the annual Hunter Homeless Connect Day has gone from strength to strength, providing direct, on-the-ground resources and support to those doing it tough such as food, clothing, bedding, phone cards, free haircuts and health services and much more.\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cThe Homeless Connect Directory helps people find community and government services, accommodation providers, food banks, emergency relief and financial assistance.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cWithout\u00a0<\/span>the support of this event and the Newcastle community, Hunter Homeless Connect would not be able\u00a0<\/span>to be there for those most vulnerable in our community.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\nThe Annual Lord Mayor\u2019s Prayer Breakfast is a gathering of churches, charities,\u00a0<\/span>businesses<\/span>\u00a0and community leaders.<\/span>\u00a0Since the\u00a0<\/span>event\u00a0<\/span>began in 2009,\u00a0<\/span>more than<\/span>\u00a0$100,000 has been raised<\/span>\u00a0for local charities.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
