{"id":11694,"date":"2021-06-07T06:44:55","date_gmt":"2021-06-07T06:44:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=11694"},"modified":"2021-06-07T06:44:55","modified_gmt":"2021-06-07T06:44:55","slug":"australian-leadership-on-show-on-world-food-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/06\/07\/australian-leadership-on-show-on-world-food-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian Leadership on show on World Food Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>World Food Safety Day is an opportunity to recognise Australia\u2019s contributions in providing safe, premium food for consumers here and abroad.<br \/>\nMinister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management David Littleproud said food integrity and safety was everyone\u2019s business.<br \/>\n\u201cAs a major food exporter, Australia has an outstanding reputation as a trusted and reliable supplier in international markets,\u201d Minister Littleproud said<br \/>\n\u201cUnderpinned by strong food safety standards, our farmers and food processors continue to provide confidence to the domestic and international community with strong food safety controls to deliver food that remains safe and reliable.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re always looking to improve our food regulatory system to ensure it remains robust and agile into the future.<br \/>\n\u201cOne way we are doing this is through chairing the Codex Committee on Food Import and Export Inspection and Certification Systems which is currently meeting virtually.<br \/>\n\u201cThe committee provides guidance and a trusted framework for efficient and transparent inspection and certification systems, which are vital for open trade in reliable and safe foodstuffs.<br \/>\nSenator Richard Colbeck, who has portfolio responsibility for food regulation, said production and consumption of high-quality, safe product had immediate and long-term benefits for individuals, the economy and the rest of the world.<br \/>\n\u201cWorld Food Safety Day draws global attention to need to prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks and highlights importance of access to safe, healthy and nutritious food,\u201d Minister Colbeck said.<br \/>\n\u201cOur food safety standards are among the highest in the world.<br \/>\n\u201cAustralia prides itself in implementing effective food safety standards throughout food production and distribution chains to ensure the safety and quality of Australian produce.<br \/>\n\u201cThe COVID-19 pandemic reinforced the importance of strong food safety systems.<br \/>\n\u201cWe will continue to be a key producer of high quality, safe, reliable and globally recognised food products.\u201d<br \/>\nFast Facts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This year marks the third United Nations World Food Safety Day.<\/li>\n<li>The theme this year\u2019s is \u2018Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>Foodborne diseases are a major inhibitor to growth and development in children.<\/li>\n<li>Codex Committee on Food Import and Export Inspection and Certification Systems 25<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0meeting is being hosted virtually by Australia over 7 days.
