{"id":11402,"date":"2021-05-14T03:50:12","date_gmt":"2021-05-14T03:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=11402"},"modified":"2021-05-14T03:50:12","modified_gmt":"2021-05-14T03:50:12","slug":"major-mascot-station-upgrade-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/05\/14\/major-mascot-station-upgrade-underway\/","title":{"rendered":"MAJOR MASCOT STATION UPGRADE UNDERWAY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Construction is underway on the $39 million makeover of Mascot Station, which will reduce crowding for train commuters and congestion for road users.<br \/>\nMinister for Transport and Roads Andrew Constance said the upgrade includes a brand new entrance\/exit on the western side of Bourke Street, additional ticket gates, new escalators and a lift to the paid concourse area.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re pressing ahead with this important upgrade to ensure this busy transport hub can meet the needs of our customers now and into the future,\u201d Mr Constance said.<br \/>\n\u201cNot only will it make life easier for train customers, but road users will also notice reduced congestion on Bourke Street with less people having to rely on the pedestrian crossing to access the station.\u201d<br \/>\nTransport for NSW Chief Operations Officer Howard Collins said there will be some changes to traffic and pedestrian access in and around the station as a result of the work.<br \/>\n\u201cAs with any major project, there will be disruption to the local community but we will be doing everything we can to reduce the impacts as much as possible,\u201d Mr Collins said.<br \/>\n\u201cTransport for NSW will keep the community and commuters informed, and continue to work with affected residents and businesses to support them during this time.\u201d<br \/>\nThe Mascot Station upgrade is part of the NSW Government\u2019s $5.3 billion More Trains, More Services Program, and is expected to be completed by late 2022.<br \/>\nThe program is also delivering a new substation at Mascot (which was announced in May last year) to improve rail services for T8 Airport Line customers.<br \/>\nThe program is aiming to increase services for Mascot customers during the morning peak by 80 per cent, meaning there will be trains every three to four minutes instead of every six.<br \/>\nFor more information, visit\u00a0<a href=\"file:\/\/nswministers.nsw.gov.au\/Office\/025_Group\/Media\/Kaycie\/Templates\/yoursay.transport.nsw.gov.au\/mascot-station-upgrade\">yoursay.transport.nsw.gov.au\/mascot-station-upgrade<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Construction is underway on the $39 million makeover of Mascot Station, which will reduce crowding for train commuters and congestion for road users.
