Florence came to Newcastle after her international singing career was cut short due to multiple sclerosis and she became a founding teacher of the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music, now part of the University of Newcastle.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Florence-Austral-Exhibition.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/getattachment\/Council\/News\/Latest-News\/Newcastle-s-forgotten-diva-Florence-Austral-celebr\/Florence-Austral-Exhibition.jpg\" alt=\"Florence-Austral-Exhibition.jpg\" \/>The exhibition will be delivered in partnership with Newcastle Libraries, University of Newcastle and led by Hilary Oliver from the Florence Austral Society, who has been instrumental in providing the research for the exhibition.<br \/>\n<strong>Curated program of Florence Austral events:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Florence Austral Exhibition<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Digital Library<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>May to September 2021<\/strong><br \/>\nImages from Florence Austral Archive Collection will be displayed on the Storywall and The Magic Box at our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newcastle.nsw.gov.au\/library\/connect\/visit\/our-branches\/digital-library\">Digital Library<\/a>\u00a0from May to September 2021. The display consists of items from the Library\u2019s Florence Austral Archive including sheet music, photos and recordings of Florence\u2019s amazing voice.<br \/>\n<strong>Our Forgotten Diva \u2013 An evening to remember Florence Austral<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Wednesday 2 June, 6-7pm<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Wednesday 14 July, 6-pm<\/strong><br \/>\nHilary Oliver from the Florence Austral Society will present Florence\u2019s life, operatic career, and discuss her link to Newcastle.<br \/>\n<strong>Treasures from the Rare Book Room<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>REAL Podcast<\/strong><br \/>\nHilary Oliver from the Florence Austral Society joins Delma Whyte, a former student of Newcastle conservatorium of music to discuss Florence Austral.
