{"id":11055,"date":"2021-04-19T13:30:04","date_gmt":"2021-04-19T13:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=11055"},"modified":"2021-04-19T13:30:04","modified_gmt":"2021-04-19T13:30:04","slug":"mad-max-prequel-furiosa-to-be-filmed-in-nsw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/04\/19\/mad-max-prequel-furiosa-to-be-filmed-in-nsw\/","title":{"rendered":"MAD MAX PREQUEL FURIOSA TO BE FILMED IN NSW"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The long-awaited prequel to George Miller\u2019s Academy Award Winning\u00a0<em>Mad Max: Fury Road<\/em>\u00a0is set to be filmed in NSW, and expected to become the biggest film ever to be made in Australia.<br \/>\n<em>Furiosa<\/em>\u00a0stars Chris Hemsworth, Anya Taylor-Joy and Yahya Abdul Mateen II, and will become the largest production to ever be filmed in NSW when filming begins in June.<br \/>\nPremier Gladys Berejiklian said securing the production of\u00a0<em>Furiosa\u00a0<\/em>in NSW was an important win for the State and our film industry.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is great news for NSW \u2013\u00a0<em>Furiosa\u00a0<\/em>is expected to support more than 850 local jobs and bring in around $350 million into the NSW economy,\u201d Ms Berejiklian said.<br \/>\n\u201cNSW will be home to this major production providing a boost to the economy across the State with filming to take place in a number of locations including in Western Sydney and regional NSW.\u201d<br \/>\nTreasurer Dominic Perrottet said the production confirmed NSW is the Premier film-making destination in Australia.<br \/>\n\u201cThere is no better place to make an international blockbuster than here in NSW. We employ 56 per cent of the Australian screen industry and we\u2019re open for business,\u201d Mr Perrottet said.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s showtime in NSW and that means jobs not just for the Arts, but right across the trades, hospitality and transport sectors as well.\u201d<br \/>\nFederal Communications Minister Paul Fletcher said securing the production was a significant win for Australia\u2019s expanding screen industry.<br \/>\n\u201cWe are experiencing a boom in large scale global productions coming to film in Australia,\u201d said Minister Fletcher.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Morrison Government has a clear focus on supporting the Australian screen sector to seize this opportunity.\u201d<br \/>\nMinister for the Arts, Don Harwin said attracting\u00a0<em>Furiosa<\/em>\u00a0to NSW was a momentous moment for the local screen industry, which has seen a recent boom in blockbuster productions.<br \/>\n\u201cEverything about\u00a0<em>Furiosa<\/em>\u00a0is as thrilling as it sounds, and I know this major production will further cement NSW\u2019s place as an extremely competitive film production powerhouse, for delivering high-end international productions,\u201d Mr Harwin said.<br \/>\n\u201cI am thrilled\u00a0<em>Furiosa<\/em>\u00a0will call NSW home thanks to the support of the NSW Government\u2019s\u00a0<em>Made in NSW fund<\/em>.\u201d<br \/>\nDirector Dr George Miller said it was great to see the Mad Max franchise return to Australia.<br \/>\n\u201cWe are entirely grateful to the Berejiklian Government and for the advice and help extended to us by Graeme Mason, CEO of Screen Australia and Grainne Brunsdon, Head of Screen NSW. The support of the Federal and New South Wales Governments were pivotal.
