{"id":10433,"date":"2021-02-25T16:53:44","date_gmt":"2021-02-25T16:53:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=10433"},"modified":"2021-02-25T16:53:44","modified_gmt":"2021-02-25T16:53:44","slug":"positive-economic-signs-as-confidence-returns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/02\/25\/positive-economic-signs-as-confidence-returns\/","title":{"rendered":"POSITIVE ECONOMIC SIGNS AS CONFIDENCE RETURNS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet\u00a0today released the 2020-21 Half-Yearly Review with\u00a0the State\u2019s recovery on track following the unprecedented economic shocks of 2020.<br \/>\nThe steady reopening of the NSW economy, recent easing of domestic border restrictions, and the first COVID-19 vaccinations delivered this week, have all boosted confidence since the NSW Budget was handed down in November.<br \/>\n\u201cWe are starting to see both consumers and businesses returning to more normal patterns of behavior and this is helping drive economic activity,\u201d Mr Perrottet said.<br \/>\n\u201cMore than 80 per cent of jobs lost in the peak of the pandemic have returned, and each new step we take in reopening the economy improves people\u2019s lives and helps business which feeds through to the bottom line.\u201d<br \/>\nThe\u00a0forecast deficit for 2020-21 had been revised down by $2.7 billion from $16 billion to $13.3 billion.<br \/>\nMr Perrottet said while the forecasts were encouraging the economic impacts of COVID-19 would continue to be felt well into the future.<br \/>\n\u201cThe roll out of the vaccine this week has provided more good news, but there are still thousands of people who are out of work and businesses struggling,\u201d Mr Perrottet said,<br \/>\n\u201cConditions remain challenging, and any improvements in the Budget will allow us to continue to invest in our record $107 billion infrastructure program and support more jobs.\u201d<br \/>\nMr Perrottet said reform remained on the agenda with consultation on possible changes to stamp duty ongoing, with community feedback open until mid-March.<br \/>\n\u201cStamp duty is one of the biggest barriers to home ownership and allowing people to buy and sell without a big upfront cost is a key reform proposal,\u201d Mr Perrottet said.<br \/>\nRead the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.treasury.nsw.gov.au\/\">Half-Yearly Review here<\/a>.<br \/>\nFind out about the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.treasury.nsw.gov.au\/property-tax-proposal\">proposed stamp duty reforms and have your say here.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet\u00a0today released the 2020-21 Half-Yearly Review with\u00a0the State\u2019s recovery on track following the unprecedented economic shocks of 2020.
