{"id":10333,"date":"2021-02-18T03:29:30","date_gmt":"2021-02-18T03:29:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=10333"},"modified":"2021-02-18T03:29:30","modified_gmt":"2021-02-18T03:29:30","slug":"mr-morrison-must-stop-playing-games-with-jobseekers-lives-and-announce-a-permanent-increase-to-jobseeker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2021\/02\/18\/mr-morrison-must-stop-playing-games-with-jobseekers-lives-and-announce-a-permanent-increase-to-jobseeker\/","title":{"rendered":"Mr Morrison must stop playing games with Jobseeker\u2019s lives and announce a permanent increase to Jobseeker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Greens say a so-called employment insurance scheme is an appalling idea and that Mr Morrison is being cruel to people on the Jobseeker payment, drip feeding potential plans for the JobSeeker payment through media leaks.<br \/>\n\u201cThis so-called insurance scheme would make an already appalling system worse, further entrenching poverty and homelessness\u201d, Greens spokesperson on Family and Community Services Senator Rachel Siewert said.<br \/>\n\u201cThis concept is based on the assumption that has been disproven time and again, that poverty is an incentive to finding work.<br \/>\n\u201cSaying that tapering down someone\u2019s payment will incentivise people to find work is ridiculous and contrary to evidence.<br \/>\n&#8220;For a start you can\u2019t find work is there isn\u2019t enough jobs.<br \/>\n\u201cWe know that young people have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic and we know that we have a cohort of people who are long term unemployed, older people who are discriminated against in the workplace and disabled people stuck on the Jobseeker payment all of whom would be severely adversely affected by this type of approach.<br \/>\n\u201cYoung people who have not had the opportunity to enter the workforce will be stuck in poverty.<br \/>\n\u201cBefore the pandemic hit the Government liked to spread mistruths that Newstart was a \u201ctransitional payment\u201d.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s simply false.
