{"id":103,"date":"2018-10-15T21:39:20","date_gmt":"2018-10-15T21:39:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/?p=103"},"modified":"2018-10-15T21:39:20","modified_gmt":"2018-10-15T21:39:20","slug":"greens-put-fresh-roadblock-in-way-of-adani","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.16news.com.au\/index.php\/2018\/10\/15\/greens-put-fresh-roadblock-in-way-of-adani\/","title":{"rendered":"Greens put fresh roadblock in way of Adani"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today a Greens motion passed the Senate demanding that the Government stop Adani\u2019s pipeline application from being assessed until the federal investigation into their environmental breaches is concluded.<br \/>\n\u201cIt would be outrageous for Adani to continue seeking a fresh environmental approval when they\u2019re being investigated for breaching the last one,\u201d said Mining and Resources spokesperson for the Australian Greens, former environmental lawyer Senator Larissa Waters.<br \/>\n\u201cYou wouldn\u2019t give an arsonist a fresh box of matches \u2013 so why should Adani get a fresh environmental approval when they\u2019ve ignored the conditions of their last one.<br \/>\n\u201cThe very least we can expect of this useless government is to apply environmental laws equally to their big business donors.<br \/>\n\u201cAdani\u2019s application for a pipeline for 12.5 billion litres of water to wash their dirty coal is a slap in the face of drought-stricken farmers, whom the Prime Minister claims to be concerned about.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Environment Minister has now been sent a clear message by the Senate \u2013 stop giving Adani free passes when they\u2019ve shown they can\u2019t be trusted.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Environment Minister needs to remember she\u2019s not a mining industry lawyer anymore, no matter how generous the mining companies are to donating to her political party.<br \/>\n\u201cOf course, given the IPCC report this week it\u2019s clear the world\u2019s climate can\u2019t take any new coal, and the Greens will continue to work to stop Adani and instead to transition to clean, job-rich renewable energy.\u201d<br \/>\n<b>Senator Waters\u2019 motion today:\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0That the Senate\u2014<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a. notes that:\n<ul>\n<li>i. Adani Mining, as part of the Adani Group, is currently being investigated by the Department of the Environment and Energy for potential breach of the\u00a0<i>Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999<\/i>\u00a0(EPBC Act) Carmichael Mine approval conditions, for alleged unlawful clearing of vegetation and sinking of groundwater dewatering bores, and<\/li>\n<li>ii.
